MARTIN MURENBEELD B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D.

Martin Murenbeeld is president of DundeeWealth Economics He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1972 with a Ph.D. in international finance. He joined the Faculty of Management Studies at the University of Toronto to develop the international business curriculum in the MBA program. He left the Faculty in 1978 to start M. Murenbeeld & Associates Inc. The company moved from Toronto to Victoria in 1989. The company became a wholly owned subsidiary of DundeeWealth Inc. in 2004 and Martin Murenbeeld was appointed chief economist of the DundeeWealth Inc. Group of Companies. Martin Murenbeeld edits all corporate publications.

Martin Murenbeeld speaks often at international foreign exchange and gold seminars. Over the years, he has spoken at conferences hosted by The London Bullion Market Association, The Gold and Silver Institutes, The International Precious Metals Institute, The Denver Gold Group, the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, the Australian Gold Council, The National Association of Business Economists (U.S.), The Conference Board of Canada, The Canadian Council of Financial Analysts, The Canadian Pulp and Paper Association, and The Canadian Institute of Mining, to name a few.

His publications and quotes have appeared in a numerous journals, newspapers and newswire services, including The Columbia Journal of World Business, Canadian Business Review, The Toronto Stock Exchange Review, The Wall Street Journal, The London Financial Times, Investors Business Daily, Fortune, The National Post, The Globe & Mail, The Toronto Star, The Northern Miner, Dow Jones, Bloomberg and Reuters.

Outside of his corporate responsibilities, Martin Murenbeeld is an Adjunct Professor of international finance in the MBA program at the University of Victoria.

 

WILLIAM THARP BA, MBA

William (Bill) Tharp graduated from the University of Toronto in 1975 with an MBA degree. He joined the Bank of Nova Scotia as economist where his responsibilities included preparing forecasts of foreign exchange and commodity market trends and the economies of the non-industrialized countries. He moved to Ontario Hydro in 1978 as Senior Economic Advisor where he was responsible for currency, interest rate, and commodity (including energy) price forecasts. In addition he prepared forecasts for the U.S., Japanese and key European economies.

William Tharp joined DundeeWealth Economics in 1993, where his responsibilities include preparing the weekly and quarterly Financial Monitor publications together with the associated interest rate and currency forecasts. Together with Martin Murenbeeld he edits the Dundee Economic Monitor, an in-house publication.

William Tharp has been quoted often in Canada's national business newspapers, including The Globe & Mail and National Post. He is also quoted extensively in the local press where he has contributed columns on local and national economic matters. Bill Tharp makes presentations to clients from time to time as well as to local organizations. Bill also teaches at the University of Victoria in the fields of International Business and International Finance.
