Dr. Martin Murenbeeld, B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D.
Dr. Murenbeeld graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1972 with a Ph.D. in international finance. He joined the Faculty of Management Studies at the University of Toronto but left the Faculty in 1978 to start M. Murenbeeld & Associates Inc., a consultancy specializing in gold and foreign exchange markets, as well as domestic-international financial and economic trends. The company’s reports included the weekly Gold Monitor, which forecasts gold market trends, and the weekly Financial Monitor, which forecasts economic, interest rate and foreign exchange market trends.
M. Murenbeeld & Associates Inc. was purchased by DundeeWealth Inc. in July 2004 and Dr. Murenbeeld was appointed Chief Economist of DundeeWealth Economics. DundeeWealth (and Dynamic Mutual Funds) was purchased by ScotiaBank in 2011.
Dr. Murenbeeld stayed on as Chief Economist until he returned to Dundee Corp in 2013. Dr. Murenbeeld left Dundee Corp in November 2016, and is now president of Murenbeeld & Co.
Murenbeeld & Co. continues to publish the weekly Gold Monitor, as well as the Economic Monitor and the Equity and Bond Observer every other month.
Dr. Murenbeeld speaks often at international mining and economic conferences and is frequently quoted in the press.
Brian Bosse, CFA
Brian Bosse began investing as a floor trader on the Toronto Stock Exchange in 1995. During the 1997-2003 technology boom and bust he was a successful proprietary trader for Dundee Corporation. In 2003 Brian resigned from Dundee to begin investing in, and then rehabilitating, troubled investment dealers. Société Générale’s Canadian Newedge division recruited Brian to build an institutional trading business in Canadian Equities. In late 2012 Ned Goodman as CEO of Dundee Corporation asked Brian to return as Portfolio Manager and found the Goodman Bluespring Fund, the first since Dundee sold Dynamic Funds to Scotiabank. Family offices in Toronto now turn to Brian for strategy and leader-ship after existing investments turn sour.
As a gold investor Brian held firm in physical from 2002 until 2016. Brian invests in both private and public equities through a Ben Graham value lens.
He holds both the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and an Honours degree in Economics from the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University.
Chantelle Schieven, MA
Chantelle brings ﬁfteen years of experience from the ﬁnancial industry and ﬁve years entrepreneurial practice to the Murenbeeld & Co. team. Chantelle’s passion for Economics, particularly monetary and fiscal policy, was sparked in her early days working in the banking sector. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, then a Master of Arts degree in China US Relations with a focus on ﬁnancial markets and monetary policy from the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
Chantelle joined Dundee Economics in 2008 where her passion for Economic research and analysis and her ability to translate data into concise, meaningful charts and graphs made her a principal contributor to Dundee Economics publications.
She also regularly contributed articles about the effect of the actions of Central Banks on global markets.
In 2016, she joined Murenbeeld & Co. where she continues to contribute articles, research, and analysis in the weekly and monthly publications. She specializes in research and analysis with a focus on the effects of macroeconomic events and data on the gold price, equity markets, exchange rates, and interest rates.
